BBLF Newsletter Goes Electronic

The BBLF are transitioning to sending the monthly newsletter to its members by e-mail, rather than  through the mail. This will get the newsletter to members in a more timely fashion. It will also save money for the organization. That money can then be used for more books and programs for the library.

If you did not receive and e-mail from the Friends and would like to get on the list, send a message to bblf@bblf.ofrg. If you did get a message from the Friends, but prefer to receive the newsletter in print format, also send a message to that address to let the editor know. We will send the two formats again in April, but in May we will only send the format that you have specified.

You can be assured that your e-mail address will not be mis-used. The Friends have adopted a Privacy Policy that states "We use e-mail addresses to answer the e-mail we receive and t o send out information to members related to the activities and interests of the Barbara Bush Library Friends. Such addresses are not used for any other purpose and are not shared with outside parties."

Please note that our Friends web page can be accessed with through the original name of www.bbushlibraryfriends.org or the new and improved shorter version of www.bblf.org.

Help the Library when you shop

With the holidays just around the corner, we would like you to think of the library when you shop for your groceries. Area grocery stores have made it easy for you to help your library when you make purchases using special cards. When you present their card at check-out, the store donates a small percentage of your purchase to the library.

The Gerland's Grocery Stores have a community Rebate Program through their Customer Advantage Card. Applications are available at each store if you don't already have one. Request that the rebate go to the Friends number, #123630. Even though they are not close by, we still receive a small amount from their program.

Kroger Neighbor to Neighbor Program also provides the library with a percentage of your purchase. To do this you need to visit the Kroger Neighbor to Neighbor website www.krogerneighbortoneighbor.com.  Search for the Barbara Bush Library Friends in the "find your organization" section. Print the letter and take it to your local Kroger store. When you check out have the clerk scan the letter so that it will attach to your Kroger Plus card. You will only need to do this one time and the whenever you check out and use your Kroger Plus card a donation will be made to the Barbara Bush Library Friends. You will need to re-enroll every year. It is effective from May 1, 2008 to April 30, 2009.

The Randall's Remarkable Card is used for check writing, special prices, and will link your purchases to the Barbara Bush Library Friends. You must tell them to link your card to the Friends' number #1362, and it will automatically give a rebate to the Friends every time you use your card. You can also link to more than one organization if you wish.

Your shopping rebates add up - we have received thousands of dollars from participating grocery stores through the years. We hope that you will continue using your cards as you do your  grocery shopping in support  of the Barbara Bush Library. We thank all of those who have used their cards regularly to our benefit as well as th stores that give back to the community.

In-library Book Sales to be Held Weekly

The Barbara Bush Friends of the Library will hold a weekly book sale in the Friends' office from 10am to 4pm every Friday.  We have some great books - a larger selection than ever before - that we hope you'll find interesting reading. All the hardbacks are offered at one great price of $5 each. Children's books are $3 each or four for $10 (new pricing). We also have an assortment of CD's and videos, plus some specially priced reference sets.

All the proceeds from the sale go back to the Barbara Bush Library in the form of new books, materials, and programs.

Once again the Serendipity Quilters have generously given the Friends a quilt to support our library. This time they have donated a colorful child's quilt. It is composed of crazy quilt blocks of kid-friendly patterned fabrics that would look refreshing in any child's room. Come by the book store in the library and see the quilt. We are selling it for $100, all of which will go  towards the children's collection of the Barbara Bush Library. Thanks to the quilters for their unique way of supporting the library.
